Ian Mansfield and Erik Tollefsen, from the GICHD, were interviewed by the Swiss television Télévision Suisse Romande (TSR) about the film "The Hurt Locker". The film tells the story of an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) squad in Iraq and it is the winner of 6 Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director for Karthryn Bigelow. NEW GICHD PUBLICATIONSThe GICHD manages the development and review of the IMAS on behalf of UNMAS, and in conjunction with the mine action community represented in the IMAS Review Board. IMAS are standards issued by the United Nations to guide the planning, implementation and management of mine action programmes. They are a framework for the development of national mine action standards. The 2010 edition of the IMAS CD contains the latest versions of IMAS, technical notes, CEN Workshop Agreements and where they exist the different language version of the standards. Examples of "national mine action standards" from nine countries are included on the CD. This CD will be available at the end of March 2010. The 2010 version of the Guide to International Mine Action Standards contains all IMAS in brief, explains the purpose of the IMAS and the requirements of the different standards in a clear way, serving as a quick reference for mine action practitioners to understand core IMAS issues. |
